Clonidine For Anxiety
Clonidine is a drug routinely used for high blood pressure and various other conditions, particularly related to the mind and stress response. This includes anxiety and ADHD.
It’s said to act on the neurotransmitter norepinephrine in such a way that it can bring down blood pressure and tone down one’s response to stress. This should, of course, only be taken under the supervision of a Doctor.
This reduction in norepinephrine activity is said to have a calming affect on the mind and the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more freely.
While this may be effective for certain people with certain health conditions, because it is a drug, there can be side effects and it may not work well for some people. It can also potentially lead to a dependency and resulting problems including withdrawal issues when trying to get off it. For some, there may be better options than Clonidine for anxiety. This should be determined by a healthcare practitioner.
For those who wish to look to more natural options for blood flow and stress reduction, there are potent natural medicines available in the form of herbs. While this is not health advice in any way and anything you try should first be discussed with your healthcare practitioner, here are some potential options to consider learning more about. These are for educational purposes only and are not health recommendations.
Black Seed Oil - This powerful herbal oil has been used for centuries to improve health in many ways. In recent times, Dr. Cass Ingram has said that it has powerful effects on lowering blood pressure. He claims it positively affects the brain, which has a role in blood pressure and it has relaxing qualities that calm down the system, including the cardiovascular system. He also says black seed oil can powerfully support the health of the kidneys. In a Chinese medicine understanding and even a western medicine understanding if you look at the role of the adrenals atop the kidneys (very involved in the stress response), this may relate to strengthening one’s ability to deal with fear and stress as the kidneys (and adrenals) are related to the emotion of fear in Chinese medicine. Dr. Cass Ingram spoke of sometimes using a tablespoon or more of black seed oil per dose to gain the desired effect in certain situations. Some may need less and even very small amounts may be enough to support someone in some situations.
Motherwort - This powerfully calming and centering herb has an affinity for the heart, especially a stress-induced racing heart. Motherwort has been used by countless outstanding herbalists to reduce stress and anxiety, especially when it connects to the heart in some way. Some herbalists even suggest using just a few single drops of tincture per dose (not even a whole droppersful) to gain benefit.
Yarrow - This wonderful herb has an affinity to the veins and arteries. It’s been thought by top herbalists to help regulate better blood flow in and out of the veins and arteries and induce better blood flow throughout the system, while cooling off the “heat” and stimulation caused by excess blood flow in one area. This cooling and flow promoting effect on the system may support balance and greater relaxation. Some very good herbalists suggest that only a few drops of tincture is often all that is needed per dose to gain the desired effect.
Burdock Root - This deeply rejuvenating and cleansing herb has been used by herbalists to support the adrenals in a profound way. It is thought to have a strong affinity to this stress-connected endocrine gland and act as a particular remedy for the emotion of worry. Burdock is also used as a cleansing herb, liver supporting herb, and is thought to help the body better utilize fats and oils if the body seems to not be easily accepting and using these nutrients. Because the adrenals are largely made of fat, this may be one reason why burdock is said to be so supportive to these glands. When the adrenals are stronger, it’s thought that the ability to deal with stress is improved.
