Altogether, this cooling, opening effect may be useful in bringing balance and reducing certain types of headaches if it seems like stagnation and inner heat may be a cause or a contributor. Small doses of 1-5 drops (1 or more times in a day) may be enough to produce a shift.

Sage - This blood balancing herb has mild thinning and anti-coagulant properties which can help slightly thick blood to course through the system less impeded and more effectively. It may be particularly suited to headaches in which you feel like the blood may be a bit thick and you feel hot, stuffy, and stagnant inside on some level and the headache is positioned at a particular point in the head with perhaps a somewhat sharp pain associated with it. Sage may be the remedy required to bring clarity to the blood and help things to move along more freely, resulting in less obstruction and more ease.

Celandine - Herbalist Matthew Wood credits Celandine as his primary go to migraine remedy. As a heating, stimulating, liver/gallbladder remedy it’s thought in an energetic sense to effect the gallbladder meridian that connects to the head/eye area. It seems to turn on and move out stagnancy in that meridian and body area. This may be what, for some, leads a notable shift. Small drops are recommended for this very active, heating remedy. 1-3 individual drops of tincture may be enough to produce a shift. You can also use the homeopathic variety.

Cayenne - This powerful herb has been used by some herbalists and homeopaths for circulatory issues and cluster headaches. Cayenne, as a blood mover, may also reduce stagnancy and potentially help if the headache or pain is in some way due to a lack of circulatory power. While any good quality cayenne powder may work, some seem to feel that fresh cayenne (which the tincture or the homeopathic captures) may offer a greater healing ability for certain issues like headaches. The homeopathic may be far easier to use for most people (tincture is very hot).

Blue Vervain - This herb is used by herbalists to reduce tension and stress from mental fixations and overwork. Some herbalists use it as a go to headache remedy.

Cleavers - Though not necessarily a headache remedy, this powerful herb is used by herbalists to help clear the lymphatic system of obstructions and encourage the kidneys to clear waste and remove excess water. It seems to have an affinity to the the head area and may help to drain that area of congestion that could build up and create pressure and agitation. Cleavers also has a cooling property, which, along with its clearing and cleansing abilities, may help to reduce agitation generated from heat. If the head area feels congested in some way plus hot or overly stimulated and sensitive, cleavers may help to bring some balance alongside other remedies or approaches.

Horse Chestnut - This powerful vein remedy has been used by herbalists to support the veins abilities to move blood through the body, including from the head area. Herbalist Matt Wood has cited cases, though perhaps rare, where it seemed that blood was pooling in the head/eye area to some extent and causing pressure, which was relieved by use of horse chestnut. It seems that horse chestnut may have a cooling, calming effect on the head area and mental processes if there is a need to support the veins ability to clear blood from that area. As some herbs work better for different people and different scenarios, another option for supporting the veins in a similar way for cooling and clearing purposes can be Yarrow. Horse Chestnut does also have relaxing, anti-tension attributes which may be useful in some headache applications. Horse Chestnut has a strong acrid taste so small doses (1-5 or so individual drops) may be ideal.

Easy Chocolate Cleansing Drink Recipe

​This may be your ideal “through the the day” meal replacement that supports deep cleansing and rejuvenation.



Tastes like chocolate milk with a somewhat different flavor profile depending on how much of each ingredient you use.


Cacao powder - About 2 tablespoons or 6 teaspoons. If you try it and want it stronger with chocolate flavor add another teaspoon or so. If you want it less strong, take away a teaspoon or so. Doesn’t have to be exact by any means.


At the moment, this particular cacao powder linked in this article is what I would use in such a drink for best taste, effect, and ease of buying. Others may or may not provide the same effect. The same goes for the other products linked in this article.

Grass Powder - Somewhere between 1 teaspoon and 3 teaspoons/1 tablespoon. I would start with 1-2 teaspoons.

Straight wheatgrass powder or blends of different grasses plus alfalfa can both work wonderfully.

Gelatinized Maca Powder (Can leave out if you do not need or want the added hormone/endocrine supporting qualities) - About 1/2 to 1 teaspoon. You may want to occasionally leave out the Maca as some suggest occasional breaks produce a better effect. There is some debate about that though. Maca adds to the chocolate malt type flavor. This version is more concentrated than raw Maca so a small amount works.

Bee Pollen - (Make sure you’re not allergic before consuming) About 1-3 teaspoons. Provides potent nutrition that may correspond to endocrine and neurological support. Adding too much may effect the overall drink flavor. Feel free to leave it out entirely if you find that it doesn’t suit you.

Raw Almond Butter - About 1-2 Tablespoons. I would start with about 1 or even a little less and see if you require more for taste, texture, and effect.

The raw almond butter in the link is made from really raw almonds, sprouted for increased nutrient and energetic effects, and stone ground for intense creaminess and nutrient availability. More expensive than some raw almond butters but can be worth it. The extra creamy texture can make stirring up drinks a little easier. But use what you can get and afford. Other raw almond butters are options as well.

​Vanilla Creme Liquid Stevia - 1 to 2 squirts or as desired once you get a sense of how much you like.

If you would rather not use a stevia product, you can try a small amount of raw honey or another sweetener of your choice. The flavored stevia seems to work well with the sweetness of the coconut water, though, to maximize flavor and minimize excess sugar. A good balance. Then the drink is high in minerals and more moderate in sugar.


Coconut Water - About a liter or a quart

Some may choose to add a small pinch of sea salt if they feel it provides a beneficial balance to both flavor and nutrition content. Some may find that they like it better without it but consider it if the drink feels like it is missing something.


With Blender or Shaker bottle - add ingredients into blender or shaker bottle and blend or shake up.


Pour remaining drink into a container with a lid to drink throughout the day.


Without blender or shaker bottle (just using cups and spoons) -


Add dry, powdered ingredients into cup. Then add Almond Butter and Liquid Stevia.


Now add a small amount of coconut water and stir a bit. It’ll soak up some of it and become a bit gooey.


Add a bit more coconut water and stir again.


Add more and continue stirring. Repeat the process until it is a thin, liquid chocolate concentrate.


Add more water and stir if required to be thin enough to pour easily with less mess.


Drink a little of the coconut water so that the coconut water bottle doesn’t overflow. Maybe about two oz or so just to give enough extra room to pour back the concentrate.


When stirred, thin, and easily pourable, you can pour the concentrate back into the 1 quart coconut water bottle. If you pour it carefully and angle it right, you can do it with no mess. Using cups that bend easily such as paper cups may be one way to slightly bend it into a funnel like angle for easy pouring. Without bending it well, you have to be more careful to pour it at the right angle to avoid it pouring on the bottle. Fairly easy cleanup either way though.


(Or you can pour the drink into a mason jar or any other container of your choice if that’s easier)


Cap it tightly and shake up the concentrate with the remaining coconut water in the quart.


Then you have a quart of nutrient dense, cleansing supportive chocolate milk.


This kind of drink can also be quite uplifting and centering, bringing you more into the moment and supporting deep meditative awareness and creative pursuits.

Easy Natural Knee Remedies

Solomon’s Seal - This powerful musculoskeletal herb lubricates dry tissue and balances tendon and ligament tone. It also is suggested by herbalists to aid in bone and connective tissue repair. Taking drops of it internally and/or putting some on topically is said to be highly effective for helping to overcome knee issues. Beyond its repair and balancing qualities, Solomon’s Seal is also known to have anti-inflammatory qualities that can reduce pain, particularly regarding the musculoskeletal system. Small doses of 1-10 drops taken internally may be a ideal in terms of dosage. Adding drops of the tincture to the effected area (knees etc.) and rubbing it in may may be of additional help. Horsetail - This silica rich herb happens to resemble a knee. This led prominent herbalist Matt Wood to suggest it once for a basketball player that had a knee injury. Apparently, it worked. While it does contain silica, its thought that horsetail aids the body in silica utilization as opposed to simply supplying the mineral. This may be why horsetail is sometimes highlighted as a connective tissue and cartilage remedy. If these are worn down or weak in a structural sense, horsetail may be just the remedy needed to provide that intelligent structural support. Small doses of 1-10 drops may be ideal. Boneset (Eupatorium Perfoliatum) - Many herbalists suggest that this plant helps the body to set bones and repair bones faster. It may do this by aiding in lubrication processes related to bone setting and other processes that relate to bone regeneration. Some herbalists, including Matt Wood, cite stories where the client took Boneset and rapidly set and repaired bone injuries in an amount of time that is hard to believe. Still, this isn’t at all to suggest that proper medical care should be avoided or discounted but that alongside it, Boneset may be a valuable ally in the proper content. Beyond its effect on bones, this plant is also said to aid connective tissue. Furthermore, in a more energetic sense, Boneset has been used to clear deep, bone-aching pains that are associated with internalized “cold”. The intense bitterness is thought to open pathways that release it and allow balance and ease to re-emerge. All in all, these qualities may connect to knee health in certain circumstances. Small doses of the tincture (1-5 drops) are preferred due to the slight toxicity potential. Long term use (especially of higher doses) is often not recommended. While highlighting the potential toxicity, many herbalists routinely use this herb for periods of time without a problem. The homeopathic Boneset can also be used. Comfrey (Symphytum) - This powerful herb is known throughout the herbal and homeopathic world as a major bone and connective tissue regenerator. It known to some as Knitbone for this reason. While it’s use as a bone regeneration supporter can be applied well, it can be so effective at this that it can potentially spark the regrowth process before the bones have set properly.
